Tie the knot

What does tying the knot mean in Scotland?

Tying the knot, is a Scottish tradition where 2 people come together, the knot symbolising strength and unity through their marriage. This tradition originates from an ancient Celtic tradition known as handfasting, where 2 people would tie or fasten their hands together using knots of cloth. This is such a special and fun part of the ceremony as your nearest and dearest can often get involved in the placing of the cloth.
